Campbell River Comets sizzling season wraps up!

2018 Comets Awards
The Campbell River Comets Track and Field Club held their Annual Awards night on Tuesday, Oct. 16 at the Sportsplex.

In addition to celebrating the exceptional performances of their athletes during this past season, they also took this opportunity to give back to one of their former members. Jonah Shankar is an amazing local athlete, and was a Comet for many years. Over $500 was raised and donated to Jonah to help support his battle with cancer. Jonah is currently overseas for treatment.

The 2018 season proved to be a stellar season for the Comets. In addition to a record number of athletes (six) to qualify for the BC Summer Games in the Cowichan Valley, three went on to achieve medals (Luke Dirom – Gold, Diego Christiansen-Barker – Silver, Trent Perras – Bronze). Both Perras and Dirom also medalled at the BC Jamboree Championships in Coquitlam (Bronze and Gold respectively). They performed so well that both earned a berth at the Legion Track and Field Nationals in Brandon, Manitoba later in August.

Ryan Lofstrom and Logan Wright were medallists at the Junior Development Championships in Kelowna at the end of July. Lofstrom managed 3 Golds and 2 Silvers, and Wright a Bronze. This season saw a remarkable number of Personal Bests achieved by everyone, including many of the newcomers to the Comets team. The 2018 season also saw Tyza Skuse become the very first Comet in 24 years to compete in the pole vault.

For Junior Development athletes, those ages 9-13, the B.C. Athletics awards JD Crests to those that meet a standard in at least 3 different disciplines.
There are Gold, Silver and Bronze standards.

The Comet recipients of these crests for this year are:

GOLD: Ryan Lofstrom, Logan Wright, Khayam Siah, Jason Lee, Elizabeth Hoffman, Victoria Hoffman, Lacie Simmons

Stellar Championship Results for Comets!

RyanLoganJDs
The Campbell River Comets Track and Field club had two athletes compete at the B.C. Junior Development Track and Field Championships in Kelowna on July 27-29, 2018. This provincial competition was only for JD participants (those aged 9-13). Despite sweltering 37 degree weather and smoke from the surrounding wildfires, Ryan Lofstrom and Logan Wright came home loaded with hardware.

Wright achieved Personal Best results all 5 of his events, which is an accomplishment in and of itself. When asked what he remembers most about the competition, he said “It was a great opportunity to represent Campbell River.” Lofstrom, who had many PB’s as well, can also boast being the Provincial Champ in three of his races. “It was an awesome experience.”

Coach Dave Ashcroft, who helped train the boys for these championships, stated “I am so thrilled for both Ryan and Logan. They trained very hard over the past month and it paid off with some amazing results. They competed against the best in BC in some very challenging weather conditions and both came home with a lot of new Personal Bests and a whole bunch of medals.”

Provincial Championships and Summer Games

August 1, 2018

Comets become stars at BC Summer Games!

CometsSGAthletesSix athletes from the Campbell River Comets Track and Field Club have returned from the BC Summer Games, bringing home several top finishes and medals.
Fresh off the Provincial Championships the weekend before, Luke Dirom and Trent Perras repeated their provincial medal performances at the games.
Dirom didn’t disappoint as top seed and won the gold medal in Javelin with a personal best throw of 48.51 meters.

Perras, competing in the Hammer event, threw 43.96 meters, earning him a bronze medal.

“What’s even more impressive,” says Comets president and coach Andrea Dirom, “is that these boys are competing against other athletes with full training facilities. We have limited track facilities in Campbell River, and many of our athletes are forced to train part-time in other communities just to have access to adequate equipment.”

Both Dirom and Perras will be attending the Legion National Track and Field Championships in August, after achieving the standard qualifications for their events.

Diego Christianson-Barker claimed a silver medal with an outstanding performance in the 2,000 meter race.

“After telling Diego at earlier meets to try and stay with the leaders for as long as he could,” says coach Vince Sequeira, “my heart sank when the gun went off and the leader took off like a rocket.” However, when Christianson-Barker maintained his spot just off the leader for the duration of the race, Sequeira was more than impressed. “I was further blown away when he managed to hang on with an awesome finishing kick to claim the silver medal.”

While not on the podium, Faith Barton, Tyza Skuse and Anna Chatterson also performed well at the games. Barton placed fourth in shot put, Skuse came sixth in pole vault and Chatterson earned a fourteenth place in the 1200 meter race.

“Our comet athletes would like to recognize the dedication of their coaches and the club’s support in helping them get prepared for the games, provincials and nationals,” says Dirom. “The results speak to the determination of our athletes, as well.”

Comets fired up for BC Summer Games!

SG2018 Comets
From left; Trent Perras, Anna Chatterton, Tyza Skuse, Faith Barton, Luke Dirom (missing: Diego Christiansen Barker)

The Campbell River Comets track and field club has had a stellar season. Their ranks have swelled with new registrants, many as newcomers to the sport of track and field, and Personal Bests have been crushed. On the heels of the CCCP Solstice Meet last weekend, co-hosted by the Comets and Comox Valley Cougars, the selections for the upcoming B.C. Summer Games are official.

The Comets will be sending six of their athletes to the games, which will be held July 19-22 in the Cowichan Valley. To be selected to the Summer Games is no small feat. There are only 36 members selected to the Zone 6 (Vancouver Island Region), 18 male and 18 female. They must be 14-15 years of age (Midget division) and also qualify in the top of their selected discipline at a specific track meet.

Many are ranked top in multiple disciplines (runs, jumps, throws) which makes being selected thatmuch more difficult. Having 6 participants selected from one club, of the ten on the island, is testament to the excellent training our local Comets club provides. The athletes that have qualified are:

Diego Christiansen-Barker - 1200m, 2000m and Javelin

Trent Perras - Hammer Throw and Discus

Luke Dirom - Javelin, Shot Put and Discus

Faith Barton - 80m Hurdles and Shot Put

Anna Chatterton - Javelin and 1200m

Tyza Skuse - 300m Hurdles and Pole Vault

Both Perras and Dirom also have Personal Best distances in some of their events which are at national levels. They are trying to qualify for the Canadian Legion National Track and Field Championship held this August in Brandon, Manitoba.

Skuse is the first Comet to ever compete in the Pole Vault. She has only started training for this event this season, and has to travel out of town to do so. In addition to these exceptional competitors, the Comets have also had Vince Sequeira, John Akehurst,  Mark Freeland and Rod Mudie selected to attend the games as officials. These three men are highly trained and extremely dedicated to the sport, both as officials and coaches.

Welcome to the 2018 Season!

Jan 14, 2018

Andrea smWelcome to the Campbell River Comets Track club!

Welcome to our 2018 Comets families and athletes,

There are a few announcements I felt should get out to all our members whether involved with winter training or not. The first being winter conditioning both resumes and starts next week.

Just a reminder that before athletes can participate they ALL need to register or re-register with the club. Information on how is posted on the Comets website under the Registration tab and/or you can use the following link:

https://www.trackie.com/online-registration/register/campbell-river-comets/19866/

Comet coaches now welcome younger athletes to winter conditioning on Thursdays from 5:30 – 6:30 pm. Tuesdays same time, for athletes 13 yrs and older. It would be nice to get an idea of how many younger athletes will be participating as it may be that many are still involved in other sports or clubs, so if your child is one of these athletes, please reply with your commitment to help our coaches organize and plan.

I would also like to bring to your attention that registration NOW includes the fundraising payment of $40. This was decided upon in attempt to eliminate logistical issues that were experienced this last season. We would like to apologize to those members who may have experienced any inconvenience due to un-cashed cheques and feel this new method of collecting will make the process much easier and straightforward.

Another aspect we would like to alter in an attempt to ease things on the communication end is how we communicate with our membership. Therefore, before official training begins you will be receiving an email invite to the Sport Organizing App "Teamsnap”. Instructions on how to accept and become part of the Comet community will be included. This is most efficient if you download the app to your cell phone, but if that is not your preference the site still has many features that help in communicating effectively with our membership.

I think that’s pretty the most important things for now, closer to official training beginning we’ll announce our Meet & Greet so you can save the date!

I would like to welcome our new volunteers as we grow as a club and hope all of you will consider lending a helping hand to make 2018 another successful season.

Once again, welcome athletes and families to another track & field season, here’s to many more personal bests!

We are just around the corner from another exciting year of track & field.

Comets Fly High at Garriock Memorial Meet

June 27,2016

23766campbellriverTyzaSkuseThe Campbell River Comets Track and Field club had 29 athletes compete at the Garriock Memorial meet in Duncan on June 11-12.

The Garriock meet is a sticker meet, meaning athletes can show up at any event in their age group and participate, without pre-registering.

Many even choose to try events they have never done or are just learning in order to augment their training!

There were a phenomenal amount of top 10 finishes and Personal Best performances recorded at this meet.

The Comets have a tradition of camping out together during the weekend of the Garriock meet.

Also announced this week were the athlete selections for the BC Summer Games which will take place July 21-24 in Abbotsford.  These competitors are Midget age class (14-15 years old).

Three Comets will be included on the Vancouver Island/Zone 6 Region team.  They are: Tatum Feeney (high jump, triple jump and 80m hurdles), Fergus Hall (discus and 800m) and Zachary Mudie (hammer throw).

Results can be found here.

Comets Shine in Port Alberni

May 16, 2016

abbytrackThe Bob Dailey Track and Field Meet in Port Alberni on May 14-15 was a great success for the many Campbell River Comets that attended.

Despite erratic weather conditions, which varied from sweltering heat to very cold, wet and windy, the athletes seemed to take everything in stride and perform well.  For many, this was their very first track meet.  The rest posted an amazing amount of Personal Bests throughout the weekend.

One notable result was posted by Seever Rondquist (Mens 18-19) who won First place in Javelin with a throw of 51.40 m and a new Personal Best in that event.

The next competition will be in Nanaimo on May 28-29.  This is also the qualifying meet for the BC Summer Games for those athletes aged 14-15 years.  The games will be held in Abbotsford in July.

2016 Candy Apple X-Country Relay

April 20, 2016

With the Campbell River Christian School not participating in the "club" track and field season this year, this year's Candy Apple X-Country Relay changed its format slightly. 2016 Candy Apple
The CARIHI track team participated with the Comets in teams of mixed ages and gender to provide 9 very evenly matched teams. Team Cheetahs took first place overall, with the "Beceptors" and Team Awesome taking second and third place respectively. A fun time was had by all and the weather cooperated by giving us perfect conditions for the meet. It is also our way of building team spirit within the club with an event like this each year.

Results:

 1st: Cheetahs - Jessica R, Anna C, Lacie S, ANTOINE
2nd: Beceptors - Gavin C, Shea B, Sydney Mc, CHAYTON
 3rd: Team Awesome - Rowen B, Emily M, Katie R, JONAH S
4th: Ooddles - Luke, Menoa, Kaien, ABBY
5th: Team 4 - Tatum, Patrick, Ryley, JEREMY
6th: Team No Name - Joel, Jessica G, Lucas, JORDAN
7th: Sprinters - Tyza, Maren, Ushwya, PHILLIP & SEEVER
8th: 5 Alive - Brynne, Diego, Jonah, MARCUS
9th: Purple Monkeys - Jonah, April, Joseph, TRENT

Names in Capitals were team captains, and the oldest member of each team. No last names were listed on the entry forms.

Outdoor workouts begin

April 5, 2016

OutdoorOur outdoor workouts have begun - rain or shine, but hopefully more shine! Be prepared for any sudden changes in the weather as the coaches in the picture show, they are prepared for rain, sleet, snow, mud, etc.

Yes, April is still a little on the "chilly" side, but as the season progresses, we will welcome the outdoor workouts. If the weather is really bad, we still have the option to go indoors.

We have a parent orientation meeting scheduled for April 7th - for all first-time track club parents. At that brief meeting we'll share Important meet information, as well how to officiate at the Triple Jump and Long Jump events. A members' handbook will also be distributed.

2016 Pre-Season Conditioning

We have closed registration for the 2016 track season with our numbers reaching a high of 46 athletes. With the number of new JD-aged athletes this year, the Comets are in a mini-rebuilding mode as the younger athletes are introduced to the Sport.

Comets wrap up season

July 2, 2015

WrapThe Campbell River Comets Track & Field Club turned its annual season windup celebration into a mock track meet, with athletes “competing” in events dreamed up by their coaches. Some of these were the Australian Hurdles, Oh Canada Relay, Hammer Toss and Water Balloon High Jump.

Always a highlight, the water balloon fight at the end of the evening even got the coaches and parents involved. It was especially welcome this year due to the very hot weather. There was much food, fun and laughs had by all.

The Comets had a very good year, with many of the athletes continuing to train for their upcoming provincials championships. The B.C. Championship Jamboree (for athletes 14 years and older) will be held in Nanaimo July 10-12.  For those 9-13 years of age, the B.C. Junior Development Championships will be in Kamloops July 17-19.

CCCP Inaugural Meet

June 24, 2015

LacieThe Inaugural CCCP Speed & Power Track and Field Meet was held at the Vanier Oval of the Comox Valley Sports Centre this past Saturday.

After several years without a local track meet, the newly resurfaced Vanier track was the perfect location for this competition.  It was a one day event co-hosted and run by the four local track clubs, the Campbell River Comets, Campbell River Christian School, Comox Valley Cougars and Powell River, thus the name “CCCP”.  Although it was a combined effort of the coaches, officials, volunteers, athletes and parents, there were a few individuals from Campbell River that were integral in the success of this track meet.  Comets Coach Dave Ashcroft, Comets Coach Vince Sequeira and C.R.Christian School Coach Kathy Andrews took on the lion’s share of organizing and running the entire meet.  From coordinating the many necessary officials, gathering the equipment for all the events and organizing volunteers while still coaching and encouraging the athletes, these individuals went above and beyond to make it happen.

The Campbell River Comets Track and Field Club had a great showing at this meet.  There were amazing numbers of top ten finishes and Personal Bests achieved.

Some standout performances included:

Seever Rondquist (men’s 16-17)  1st Javelin and 1st Shot Put

2015 Track Season begins

May 6, 2015

Abby2aThe starter’s gun was fired on the first official Vancouver Island track meet of the 2015 season – the Bob Dailey Memorial Track and Field meet – on May 2-3 in Port Alberni.

The Campbell River Comets Track and Field Club had 26 athletes attend the competition.  For 12 of these Comets, ranging from the age of 9 to 40+, it was their very first track meet.  The Comet “newbies” included: Kaien Eidsvik (9), Laure Minfray (9), Ushwya Brennan (10), Kate-Lynn Revoy (10), Lacie Simmons (10), Rowen Berkey (11), Emily Milne (12), Abigayle Underhill (12), Joelle Gilkin (15), Luca Mastrangelo (16), Tamara Takach (17) and Jim Brennan (40+).  It was a successful first showing for the Comets this year.

This was evident not only with the multitude of Personal Bests achieved, but also by the smiles on all the faces. This meet was run as a “sticker meet”, meaning that there is no pre-registration needed for the events. This enables the participants an opportunity to choose which events or races to enter as the meet progresses.

Many athletes, both veterans and newbies alike, find this type of meet less stressful and an easier way to try their hand at new events. Given that there are so many different disciplines within the umbrella of track and field, there is something for everyone, whether they be a sprinter, long distance runner, jumper or thrower.

The track community, in general, is very supportive. Although it can take years to develop the technique and skill required to reach highly competitive levels, the coaches, officials, athletes and parents are always happy to lend a hand or offer encouragement. Jim Brennan (Masters), who had a very impressive first meet, helps remind us that it is never too late to start, and that track and field is no exception.

2nd Annual Candy-Apple Relay "in the books"

April 22, 2015

Second Annual Candy Apple Cross-Country Relay

Amidst torrential downpours and a brisk breeze, the Campbell River Comets Track and Field Club, along with the Campbell River Christian School Track team, competed in the second annual “Candy Apple” Cross-Country Relay Race on Tuesday evening.  Each member of a four person, mixed-age team ran a 1200m loop through the trails at the Sportsplex.  The 52 athletes were all fierce competitors, especially with the prizes for first to third place being chocolate and candy covered apples!  The race was a close one, with less than five minutes separating the first to thirteenth place team finishes.  This friendly race was a fun way to officially kick off the 2015 track season.  Despite the less than optimal weather, a good time was had by all.  Many thanks goes out to the organizers and participants who made this race such a success and a new Campbell River tradition.

Here are the results:

A "SWEET" START TO THE SEASON

April 10, 2015

runnapleThe Comets season will officially kick off with the 2nd annual Cross-Country Relay Race on Tuesday April 14th, 2015. This fun event will take place once again on the fields and trails at the C.R. Sportsplex beginning with team selections at 3:30, with the actual relay race from 4:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. This will be the 2nd time that the Comets, along with the C.R. Christian School have combined to put on the event. It will again feature mixed teams of 4, randomly selected, made up of mixed ages and mixed genders.

It should be just as exciting and intriguing as it was last year. For their efforts, the first three winning teams will receive Candy Apples from Rocky Mountain Chocolates for each member of their team. I guess that could be considered "semi-healthy"?

Come out and cheer on your athletes and encourage everyone to complete their leg of the race, no matter what. It's the emphasis on participating as a team and in a team event that matters. This will translate into team spirit at our track meets!

FINISH WITH A FLOURISH

 Aug 20, 2014

LegionMedalistsTekarra Reierson finished the 2014 season in style with a bronze medal performance in the Legion National Championships held August 15th - 17th in Langley, B.C. The speedy sprinter ran the 400m first leg of the medley relay representing the Comox Valley Cougars. Running the 800m anchor leg was former Comets athlete, Kristin Gage. The team recorded a time of 4:21.50 min. for their bronze medal.

Pictured are (L to R) Lizzie Gummer (200m), Camryn Curts (200m), Tekarra Reierson (400m), and Kristin Gage (800m). What a great way to cap off a successful track season. Much of the credit for their success goes to coach of John May of the Comox Cougars. Well done girls!

COMETS ATHLETES AT BC HIGH SCHOOL PROVINCIALS

May 31, 2014

SeeverSeever Rondquist showed why he is still ranked in the Top 10 BC amongst Javelin Throwers of his age. His throw of 49.68m was well short of his PB mark of 53.42 set at the N.Island Championships earlier this year, but it was good enough to beat out all others to earn a gold medal at the competition. Seever represented Timberline High School in the Junior Boys category.

Other notable results from our Comets athletes were the Girls' bronze medal winning team from CARIHI Secondary School made up of Comets athlete Tekarra Reierson, (pictured 2nd from right) and former Comets runners, Kristin Gage and Renate Blushke now running for the Comox Cougars. The fourth member of the team is Kyla May also of the Cougars.relay

Marcus Savery did very well in the Junior Boys Hurdle events as did Mairin Shields-Brown who achieved her personal best jump of 4.76m in the Long Jump. Rounding out our Comet athletes list is Alice Rondquist who achieved a very respectable 12th place finish in her Hammer Throw event.

2014 SEASON UNDERWAY

April 18, 2014

Our 2014 Track and Field season officially got underway at the beginning of March with full outdoor wokouts on the Phoenix Track. With the addition of the winter conditioning workouts led by coach Shelagh, our Comets are off to a "running" start. We have once again reached our maximum numbers in registration and are looking forwad to some great results this year.

CandyAppleRelayOne of the first "meets" this year was our "Candy-Apple Cross Country Relay" held on April 10th at the Sportsplex. It featured teams of 4, with mixed genders and mixed ages, competing in a fun meet against the CR Christian School. Our Comets Track club was well represented by 16 athletes and placed 2nd, 3rd, 6th and 7th overall out of 12 teams entered.

The top three teams earned candy covered apples for their efforts. Everyone had a great time and many thanks go to Kathy Andrews from the Christian School for laying out the 1.2K course at the Sportsplex.

With the shortened season this year, due to the closure of the track at Sidney, the total number of meets in the VIAA series this year has been reduced to 4. This means that in order to qualify for the large rosette ribbons, an athlete will have to compete in at least 3 of the 4 meets in the series.

The first meet in the series begins on Saturday / Sunday May 3rd and 4th in Port Alberni. We normally get a good turnout from our Comets Athletes and this year we will expect much the same. As this is a "Summer Games" year, our Midget (14 and 15 year olds) athletes will be especially keen to see how they measure up to the other Island Athletes.

2013 MID-SEASON REPORT

May 24, 2013

MairinWith the 2013 season reaching its mid-point, the Campbell River Comets are once again in full swing. Athletes competed in the George Dean meet, the Bob Dailey Meet, and the Dogwood Meet the past month, all aiming to better their personal bests. There are a number of new athletes in our club who competed at a club meet for the first time this year. Many of these young JD athletes are finding it a lot more challenging than the school meets but still a lot of fun. For those athletes who have yet to make it to a meet, there are still 4 more meets in the next weeks to try it out.

In addition to the club meets, many of our older athletes have been busy competing at the High School meets with their respective schools. Many thanks to the Campbell River Christian School and Kathy Andrews who have looked after some of our athletes as they compete in the school circuit.

The picture above shows Mairin "struttin her stuff" during the 1500m RaceWalk event at the Port Alberni meet.

MOVING IN A NEW DIRECTION

February 6, 2013

DaleWith Coach Dale Trenholm's resignation from the Comets this year, it marks the end of a very long coaching history for the club. Dale has been with the club for the past 14 years and has been a major part in the development, growth, and success that the Comets Track Club presently enjoys. His expertise, and dedication will be missed as we continue onwards in a new direction with the Comets. Many of our successful athletes from the past will be thankful to Dale for his time and dedication to them. A heartful "Thank You" from all of the Comets' members, coaches, and excutive, and we wish him well in his future plans. Hopefully it will involve Track.

Comets Athletes Shine at 2012 Provincial Meets

August 20, 2012

2012 BC Summer Games

Seever_and_BrendanZone 6 (Vancouver Island / Sunshine Coast) Captured the overall 2012 BC Summer Games title this year by the slimmest of margins - by one medal count! A big part of the success of this year's Zone 6 was the performance of our Track and Field athletes represented by the VIAA clubs and Island athletes.

Campbell River was well represented in Track and Field, sending athletes from the C.R. Comets as well as the C.R. Christian School. Three athletes from our Campbell River Comets competed for Zone 6: Zachary Allemekinders, Brendan Hoff, and Seever Rondquist.

Congratulations to all three athletes on successful results at the Summer Games!

Seever finished with two silver medals in Javelin and Discus respectively and placed 13th overall in the Shot Put. Brendan brought home a silver in the 4 x 400 relay and bronze the 1200m, and finished a very respectable fourth in the 200m.

In a very competitive boys section, Zachary finished with a 6th in the Triple Jump, 9th in the Long Jump, and a solid 11th in the Discus.

2012 BC Junior Development Championships

Five C.R. Comets athletes competed at this year's 2012 BC JD Championships in Richmond this BCJD Teamyear. Congratulations to Greg Hay, Hayley Hunter, Olivia Knowles, Julia Ashcroft, and Kristen Gage for an impressive showing in the meet. Their results speak for themselves as they competed against some of the very best athletes in their respective age groups in the province.

Hayley's gold medal 400G Javelin throw of 38.32 metres shattered the 2003 record of 37.73 m. and set new B.C. record in the process. She followed that up with a solid 6th place finish in the Discus.

Not to be outdone, Greg also won the boys' 600G Javelin event with a throw of 36.60m The result also placed Greg on the BC all-time Top Ten record list for his age group. Greg added a silver medal in the High Jump to go along with his gold medal in the Javelin. He finished the meet with impressive 6th place finishes in the 100 metres, and Long Jump (personal best of 1.5m) plus a 7th place finish in the 200m.

Kristen was a double bronze medal winner in both the Long Jump and Triple Jump, finishing behind teammate Olivia Knowles who captured the silver medal in the Triple Jump with only .08 m separating the two.

Kristen also placed sixth in the 300 m, ninth in the 200 m, and 14th in the 100 m while Olivia completed the meet with a fourth in the 300 m, seventh in the 200 m, ninth in the 100 m, fifth in High Jump and sixth in Long Jump.

Julia Ashcroft, in the younger age group, placed fifth in Javelin, eighth in 100 m, sixth in Shotput, tenth in 60 m, tenth in the 200 m and 17th in Long Jump.

2012 BC Track and Field Championships Jamboree

We had five C.R. Comets athletes making the trek over to Coquitlam this past July to compete at the BC Track and Field Championship Jamboree. This is the premiere meet for our older athletes aged 14 and older. The competition at this meet is very, very good and really shows how our athletes are doing as compared to the rest of the province.

Leading the way with the medals was Ayla Akehurst in what was probably her last meet as a C.R. Comet, having been with the club since she was 10 years old! Ayla took home two gold medals in the Horizontal Jumps, winning the Long Jump with a leap of 5.27m and the Triple Jump in 11.24m. Ayla has qualified for the Junior Nationals in Manitoba later this year. Good luck to her!

Brendan Hoff competed in the 1500m and 2000m events, notching up a silver and a gold respectively. His times of 3:21.71 for the 1500m and 6:00.83 for the 2000m were impressive, considering the sweltering heat and a contoversial incident during the 2000m event.

Haven Ullstrom finished with a bronze medal in the 2000m Steeplechase with a time of 6:19.21. It was one event where everyone wished that they still had the water jump included! It was HOT! Haven also placed a respectable 14th in the 1500m amidst a very talented field of athletes.

Josie Simpson had probably her best meet of the season to close out the year. She placed 5th in the 2000m Steeplechase, 11th in the 1500m, and 12th n the 800m, in some very fast company. Well done Josie!

Chyanne Trenholm rounded out our athlete list who competed at the Jamboree. Chy managed to place a very strong 6th in the 100m and 8th in the 200m. She was up against some pretty impressive competition from some of the best sprinters in the province.

Well done to all who competed at the meet and thanks for representing the Campbell River Comets at the Provincials!
